| ABOUT GREAT SONGS OF THE SKY Great Songs of the Sky is a Tribute to the Music of 1960s Pop Icon Donovan. You may remember some of his thirteen Top 40 Hit Songs from 1965-1970 such as Mellow Yellow, Sunshine Superman, Hurdy Gurdy Man & Catch the Wind. Unlike most tribute concerts, Great Songs of the Sky does not do identical covers of Donovan's music. Rather, Lucy D'Mot has written custom arrangements that incorporate large ensembles, & eclectic musical styles including jazz, pop, rock, folk and world sounds. Donovan has written over 800 songs, many having to do with the seasons of the year. For the most part, Great Songs of the Sky does not perform Donovan's popular hit songs, but rather performs 30-40 of his lesser known works. Great Songs of the Sky has been performing since 2005 and will be continuing indefinitely into the future. It has been recognized both in the Greater Sacramento area & abroad, and won critical acclaim in 2006 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Donovan himself has recognized and thanked Great Songs of the Sky for bringing his music to a new format and audience. Great Songs of the Sky is a "work in progress", and this year, 2008, looks forward to adding performers from the Sacramento and El Dorado County communities to the production. We intend to offer our musical services to other nonprofit and charitable healing organizations, and to local hardship situations as the need arises. |
